Take those mile long links and pop it into Bit.ly and out pops a much shorter version of your url.

The service is free to use and no login required to shorten a URL.

If you want to track your shortened URLs, then you need an account – which is free.

Once you sign-up and login, you can paste your long URL as before but now you have the option of customizing the bit.ly domain name to bitly.com or j.mp.

You also now have the ability to use a custom /link instead of a random one. For example you can change http://bit.ly/1Rq6tON to http://j.mp/revto.

Bitly can even be customized to a shorter version of your URL – a branded shorter version!

For example http://reviews.pe (BYO domain name).

 

 

You can also track clicks, see referrers, and how many other Bitlys link to the URL. in the backend dashboard.

You can even keep an eye on what your friends are sharing.

Well, if they use bitly, whenever they save a public Bitlink, it shows up in the dashboard!

Being able to see in real-time how many of your links are being clicked on and read or forwarded allows you the ability to keep your marketing and output relevant and keep your audience interested.

If you have posted content and there are no clicks, then you may want to reassess the content you are putting out.
