FastPencil review | an online book and ebook publisher

FastPencil is an online book and ebook publisher.

You can publish for free under their imprint (FastPencil) or for a $599 fee, you can set up your your own publishing imprint. Let’s take a look at the free account.

Once you register and sign in, you can start a new project (free), or you can purchase a “project setup” and have the FastPencil team get all your files organized for you ($299).

I created a new project, gave it a name and was then presented with a range of choices in the well laid out control panel.

Hmmm… I can start writing using the editor, import notes from Evernote, import blog posts, or import a text file.

There is a discussion center for collaborating with your writing team (you can invite collaborators) which makes this a great platform for collaborative writing.

I decided to import one of my blogs as a starting point. You can import from the blog rss feed or provide your credentials and import directly from the blog posts.

THE GOOD /

THE BAD /

  • Easy to navigate control panel
  • Free account available
  • Didn’t find anything that really stood out

THE BOTTOMLINE /

FastPencil enables writers to create their books online, share their work with a trusted network of friends and professionals, and publish books on demand either as hardcover, paperback, Kindle or e-books instantly.

Once connected to your blog, you can select a date range and then select which posts you want to import. You can choose not to import images if you wish.

Once all of your selected posts are imported you are given a choice of 10 template styles and 14 page sizes ranging from 6×4″ to 8.5×11″.

You can preview each one of these combinations before you commit although generating the pdf takes a while.

FastPencil offers a quick way to write, publish, & distribute your book

I must say the results are amazing, my “book” looked great! I should have selected NOT to import images. But other than that good so far.

Now all I had to do was to use the online editor and clean up a few things and hit preview again.

This is EASY! I can see myself using this service and inviting collaborators. No question.

Once you are finished you can publish to the FastPencil marketplace (free) or Wide Distribution for $299.
