Medium review | A simple blogging platform. That, in and of itself, is its’ strength.

Medium is a simple blogging platform. That, in and of itself, is its’ strength.

As a repository of leading thoughts from across the globe, Medium is a mix for both amateur writers (you can sign up and post for free) and professionals (wringers) that Medium invites to write for them.

THE GOOD /

THE BAD /

  • Great creative network
  • Easy to use interface
  • Connecting writers with readers
  • No frills

THE BOTTOMLINE /

Easy to use writing platform with huge audience

Pro and Amateur Platform

Medium is more akin to a magazine than to a blog. But, there is no subscription so think more Pandora model vs Time or Life.

They simply serve up articles from a wide variety of topics.

Medium boasts 1000-1200 posts a day from non-professionals and a handful from paid writers.

They can be seen as an online magazine of an eclectic gathering of what’s happening today. Opinions, news, commentary, science and the like.

The founder, Evan Williams is also the founder of Blogger and Twitter, so it is no surprise that he knows this space and has created a tool that was attractive to writers as well as their audience.

The tool is simple to use and writers can add code, video, images, tweets, and music to their posts.

Think of a blog with thousands of writers. That’s Medium.

Conversation on the posts via comments is what will push an idea to the forefront.

It’s not about likes but about engagement with thought provoking ideas (read ratio).

Comments can be posted in the margins alongside the point you are referencing.

You can also collaborate on a story and request notes before publication.

Medium’s rules are quite liberal – no hate, play nice, no gimmicks or tricks.

So, you can easily post an article from your personal blog on to your Medium account.

That said, I don’t see any downside to using Medium to help get your story out there.

The Medium staff drinks their own kool-aid and uses the platform to share ideas and voice opinions too.

Medium is great if you are just starting out because of the large built-in audience.

Company Overview

Editor’s note: This information was taken directly from the company’s page

Medium is a community of readers and writers offering unique perspectives on ideas large and small.

Medium is a different kind of place to read and write on the internet.

A place where the measure of success isn’t views, but viewpoints.

Where the quality of the idea matters, not the author’s qualifications.

A place where conversation pushes ideas forward and words still matter.
