SquareSpace review | a rich website publishing platform

Squarespace is a rich website publishing platform.

Simple to get started and pretty intuitive when interacting with the backend.

Their business model is great for the company that wants to be able to add their content and launch.

The Squarespace team spends a tremendous amounts of time staying relevant and servicing the small to midsize business owner market.

They have proven they know their space and audiences needs. I began my review of Squarespace by setting up an account.

That took about 15 seconds since they offer a 14-day trial with no credit card, or real information needed except a name and email.

Once in, I found the layout to be a very simplified version of WordPress.

THE GOOD /

THE BAD /

  • Everything you need to get your site up quickly.
  • You do not own the site, but own your content.
  • Once you stop paying, you will have to rebuild the site either onto your own platform or another software.

THE BOTTOMLINE /

Squarespace is a web publishing (blogging, content management) company that sells a software publishing platform and file server service to individuals and businesses.

So for me it was pretty easy to navigate.  I like the fact that each topic or area of the dashboard, offers a pop-up description of what each one of your actions will accomplish.

This is a great tool when you are still learning the language, let alone knowing what to do with the pages.

The theme selection is varied, but found the templates cater mostly to a company that needs to be able to present through creative imagery.

These themes are perfect for artists, photographers and any type of creative professional.

Now don’t get me wrong, these themes will still do the job for a blog or business professional site, they just focus heavily on imagery as their presentation.

Squarespace

has the ability to import your current site from WordPress, Blogger and Tumblr, as well as the e-commerce products from Shopify or Big Cartel.

This gives you a quicker start getting your site up and running. The e-commerce option is available on every template and provides you the ability to complete a transaction on the site.

Squarespace is partnered with Stripe, which offers competitive rates based on the market as a whole.

Standard analytics services are included and the ability to connect Google Analytics to your site.

They’ve also integrated the ability to make your site social by connecting numerous social platforms and also the integration of Disqus for commenting.

SquareSpace at a Glance

Squarespace does provide a few custom options for the more advanced user where you can install some of your own code to create a certain outcome on the site, along with a Developer level for the Unlimited or Business plan users.

Customer support is available 24/7, by Squarespace’s experienced team and isn’t outsourced.

Another great feature on Squarespace is the ability to access the knowledge base or help center from the dashboard, so you don’t have to leave your site to find answers should you get stuck.

Overall, Squarespace is a pretty easy to use platform that is mobile and SEO ready. Should you be looking for a pay-as-you-go platform, they are worth checking out.

Cool platforms, but then if you don’t want to pay a monthly fee, your stuck.  But good if you need the support.

Hey June, If you are using WordPress there is a free or very inexpensive plugin called Akismet that will help with the spam. They are one of the best!
