Finding, hiring, managing and paying outsourced contractors can be a challenge.

Upward – a consolidation of oDesk and Elance – has taken this into account and has created a complete solution to solve these needs by having you post your job needs to thousands of potential hires and then you’ll begin getting responses from skilled candidates—often within minutes of hitting post now.

Once you begin to receive responses, you are able to review the freelancers work histories, past client feedback, test scores, and portfolios to narrow your field of choices.

Once you’ve settled on a handful or so we’d suggest you set up virtual interviews to discuss the project and their skills to insure you are choosing not only the candidate that looks good on paper, but also has a personality that matches what you are looking for.

Upwork the place to find freelancers and freelance jobs

Next steps Upwork will take you through setting up milestones and funding the project with timelines, uploading of any necessary support documents, logo’s, etc. and you are off to the races.

The company collects 10 percent of the payment. Payments are made through Upwork, which handles many bookkeeping tasks for the transaction. In addition to the marketplace aspect and the payment/bookkeeping services, the company uses collaborative software, “Upwork Team,” that allows clients to see a provider’s progress while he or she is billing time. Overall a solid platform.  I haven’t used them, but know many folks that say this is there go-to-outsourcing platform of choice. Check em’ out and let us know what you think.
